18th-century Artists Impressions of Kirkstall Abbey

(8/9 )

back

The Kirkstall Abbey scrapbook in the Social History collections at Abbey House Museum attributes this to Thomas Girtin and calls it the Aire Valley. If so, the viewer is looking south-east over the ruins with the river running in an easterly direction towards the centre of Leeds. The rural setting is remarkable. It must date from around 1800.
