Robert of Pipewell,
abbot of Fountains 1170-80
For nine years he ruled the monastery of Fountains,
showing himself kindly to all, beloved by all and himself loving
the whole world.

Robert presided as abbot of Pipewell, a daughter-house
of Fountains, and was then promoted to lead the community at Fountains.
He held
this office until his death at Woburn Abbey, on his return journey
from the General Chapter. Robert’s body was returned to Fountains
and buried in the chapter-house. |
