Father Abbot

The Father Abbot was either the abbot of the abbey that had established a new Cistercian foundation (known as its daughter-house) OR, in the case of the nunneries, he was the abbot appointed as the nuns’ mentor, who oversaw their spiritual care and might offer guidance in other matters.
