Corrody

A corrody was a stipend awarded to an individual (a corrodian) either in return for past services to the abbey or a grant made to the house. A full corrody consisted of food and drink, light and heat, accommodation within the precinct, and sometimes clothing and laundering; oftentimes the corrody simply included food and drink. There was never a large number of corrodians in the British Cistercian houses.
