Thomas Swinton, abbot of Fountains, 1471-78 (resigned)

Before his elevation to the abbacy in 1471, Thomas held an important administrative office at Fountains. The notebook he kept at this time, his ‘Memorandum Book’, has survived and provides a fascinating insight to the abbey’s dealings with its tenants and servants at this time.
