Bursar
This post was similar to that of the cellarer.
It was an important office and involved travelling to conduct business
on behalf of the community. A surviving fifteenth-century memorandum
book that belonged to a bursar of Fountains
Abbey, notes his dealings
with the abbey’s tenants and servants, and the purchases
he made on the monastery’s behalf.
